White House: “Overwhelming Evidence” Russia Trying To Cover Up Syria Gas Attack

Well, here it is: something.

But it’s impossible to know what because at the end of the day, there’s still the mountain of evidence that supports the contention that the Trump administration colluded with Russia during the election.

So while we can’t possibly know the “whole” story behind the chemical attacks in Syria last week, we now know the “official” line which is simply this: Russia was complicit.

Via USA Today

The White House said Tuesday there is overwhelming evidence that Syria used a sarin nerve agent to attack opponents of the government last week, and that Russia is trying to help Bashar al-Assad’s government cover up the illegal use of chemical weapons.

“The Syrian regime and its primary backer, Russia, have sought to confuse the world community about who is responsible for using chemical weapons against the Syrian people in this and earlier attacks,” said a report issued by the National Security Council.

The NSC report said Syria’s use of chemical weapons is “unacceptable” and poses a “clear threat” to the United States and the world. It called on the international  community to make a statement that “this behavior will not be tolerated,” though it did not specify possible consequences.

While no specifically mentioning Russia in its call for action, the report said: “This is a critical moment – we must demonstrate that subterfuge and false facts hold no weight, that excuses by those shielding their allies are making the world a more dangerous place.”

The report and three White House officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss classified information, said the Syrians and its backers with the Russian government are trying to cover up the use of chemical weapons with false narratives.

And from Bloomberg

  • Russian narrative that terrorists, and not the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, launched April 4 chemical weapons attack in Syria is false, senior White House official says in meeting with reporters.
  • Official says all collected evidence shows chemical weapons attack originated from Shayrat airfield, that U.S. has gathered hundreds of accounts of sarin gas exposure from the event, and that Russians were co-located with Syrian forces at the time the chemical attack was launched
  • There are more than 200 allegations against Syrian regime for using chemical weapons since 2013, official says

Russia? Moscow? Putin? The Kremlin? And “false narratives”?

Nahhh. They wouldn’t do that

*******

Update: And now this…

The UN Security Council is to vote Wednesday afternoon on a new draft resolution by France, the U.K. and the U.S. demanding an investigation of the alleged weapons attack in Syrian town of Khan Sheikhun that killed dozens, said Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ukraine ambassador to the UN.

  1. If the White House said it then it must be true. Next I expect they will tell us that the chemical weapons were manufactured by Saddam Hussein and smuggled into Syria from Iraq while Obama was president.

  2. Next they will tell us that Obama manufactured the weapons himself, when living in Africa. And Susan Rice delivered them to Hillary, who flew the planes herself.
