2 Scoops Of Mnuchin: ‘There’s The Potential For A Trade War’, Trump ‘In Talks’ With Postal Service on Amazon

If you were wondering whether it’s possible that there will ultimately be a trade war with China, Steve Mnuchin wants you to know that the answer is “yes”, although that’s not the “objective.”

Earlier today, Larry Kudlow was at pains to explain what exactly Trump’s Thursday evening broadside portends for negotiations between Washington and Beijing and as it turns out, that question is meaningless because – surprise! – there are no negotiations.

That was consistent with what Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng said at a hastily convened press event on Friday evening (local time). To wit:

For a period of time, financial and economic officials from both sides haven’t had any negotiations on any economic or trade issues.

So no one is even trying to resolve this currently.

One of the problems here is that Trump has exactly no one who is capable of credibly calming markets – everyone on his team is a standing joke. Including Steve Mnuchin who said this on CNBC Friday afternoon:

I’m cautiously optimistic that we will be able to work this out. But there is the potential of a trade war.

Oh good! And do you know what else he said? He also said that Trump is in talks with the Post Office on Amazon in order to ensure there’s a “level playing field” for retail businesses.

As for whether this is in any way, shape or form related to Trump’s vendetta against Bezos and WaPo, Mnuchin said this:

Absolutely not.

Yeah, ok Steve.

Here’s the video in case you want to subject yourself to it:

  1. What the hell is Trump doing trying to interfere in a contract the Post Office has with another company? He seems to believe that Amazon is just another of his contractors that he has the right to stiff.

  2. The Bubble Has Burst !!! Everything Trump says and does is a ” Reality Show Star ” distraction and obfuscation of The Bubble Burst . That’s why they call it a bubble , because you can’t see it even after it’s popped . You say Trade War – I say Bubble Pop ; you say Lawrence Kudlow – I say Bubble Pop MC . Sears Pop , Toys R Us Pop , Macy’s Pop , Amazon sales growth to people that haven’t been able to get a job in years and whose credit has reached limit with dwindling resources Pop . Old Adage : Every heisenbergreport and David Stockman have their day .

  3. A few days ago I mentioned that trump has not appointed any of the 9 people to complete 11 position board of governors for the U S Postal Service… rather than me tell the story, you can read it here, from NPR, April 3rd:

“President Trump has argued in recent days that the U.S. Postal Service has lost a fortune delivering Amazon packages at a discount.”

“However, some of the agency’s problems might lie with the president. The top planning and oversight board at the Postal Service has been unable to meet and consider matters such as the agency’s long-term relationship with Amazon, because the president has failed to appoint any of the nine governors to the 11-member Board of Governors of the U.S. Postal Service.”
