Listen, Donald Trump is not concerned about the Robert Mueller probe, ok?
Because “there was no collusion.” And “there was no obstruction.” And he didn’t do anything wrong. “Believe me.”
The other thing you should know about the Mueller probe is that it’s clearly winding down. And by “winding down”, Trump’s lawyers mean that more and more people are getting indicted, including more than a dozen Russian nationals. Oh, and Rick Gates is cooperating. Oh, and Paul Manafort is facing at least two decades in prison, which means eventually, he’ll probably cooperate too. Oh, and Trump’s lawyers are now throwing Hail Marys by suggesting they’ll serve up the President for an interview if Mueller promises to put a sell-by date on the investigation.
Ok, so maybe Trump’s lawyers are being a bit optimistic with the whole “winding down” thing. Maybe what they actually mean is “just getting started.” And maybe it’s becoming increasingly clear that legal experts were precisely correct last summer to suggest that Trump’s legal team, in its current form, is woefully outgunned by Mueller’s team.
And maybe that’s why Trump is now talking to Emmet T. Flood who represented Bill Clinton during impeachment proceedings. Here’s The New York Times:
The lawyer, Emmet T. Flood, met with Mr. Trump in the Oval Office this past week to discuss the possibility, according to the people. No final decision has been made, according to two of the people.
Should Mr. Flood come on board, the two people said, his main duties would be a day-to-day role helping the president navigate his dealings with the Justice Department.
Flood would reportedly replace Ty Cobb who has been completely ineffective unless you count rounding up and delivering all the documents Mueller has demanded and making sure all of Trump’s aides show up on time to help put their boss in prison, in which case he’s been great. Here’s the Times again:
Mr. Cobb’s primary task – producing documents for Mr. Mueller and arranging for White House aides to meet with prosecutors – is largely complete.
Finally, I realize this sounds bad as it seems to suggest that Trump is getting even more worried than he already was, but according to two people close to the White House who spoke t the Times, “the overture to Mr. Flood does not indicate any new concerns about the inquiry.”
Again: “believe me.”
>Oh, and Paul Manafort is facing at least two decades in prison, which means eventually, he’ll probably cooperate too.
So you think the poison needles in the UK are not a sign to him. If he cooperates he will be witness protection program material.
Riiiiiiight, Mr President Dennison, all is going exactly as planned. You like buying things and I just happen to have a bridge for sale, in fact it is in your home city, a little hamlet called Brooklyn.
“the overture to Mr. Flood does not indicate any new concerns about the inquiry.”
Yup, the same old concerns: guilty of almost anything you can think of.
