WaPo: Trump Now Under Investigation For Obstruction Of Justice

Well, if Donald Trump didn’t want to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, he goddamn sure wants to now, because the Washington Post, citing five unnamed sources, is out reporting that the President is for all intents and purposes under investigation for obstruction of justice.

“The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice,” WaPo wrote this evening, adding that “the move by special counsel Mueller to investigate Trump’s conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.”

Of course this makes all kinds of sense.

After all, Trump tried to extort James Comey (over dinner) into pledging his undying loyalty to the Oval Office and then when that didn’t work, he fired him.

Less than 24 hours later, he called Comey a “crazy nut job” while bragging to Sergey Lavrov and Sergey Kislyak about how he imagined the Russia investigation had been summarily dismissed along with the person leading it.

Unfortunately for Trump, Comey then went to the NY Times with a memo documenting his interactions with the President in an effort to effectively force the DoJ to appoint special counsel. Which they did.

Trump then threatened Comey (on Twitter no less), only to freeze up completely after Comey called his bluff last week on the whole absurd “tapes” claim.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Trump reportedly considered firing Mueller earlier this week and that’s after the WH tried to figure out if they could use an obscure ethics rule to undermine the special counsel investigation before it even got started.

So “yes,” Trump is obstructing all kinds of justice.

And at this point it’s so blatant that you’ve got to think Mueller would have to investigate it even if he didn’t want to, or risk looking like either an accomplice or a complete buffoon.

Here’s WaPo again:

Five people briefed on the requests, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said Daniel Coats, the current director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, head of the National Security Agency, and Rogers’s recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett, agreed to be interviewed by Mueller’s investigators as early as this week. The investigation has been cloaked in secrecy, and it is unclear how many others have been questioned by the FBI.

In case this is in any way unclear to anyone, I want you to know that Donald Trump is fucked.

And I swear to Christ I would still say that right now even if I loved the guy and thought he was the greatest President to ever live. There is simply no way he’s going to get out of this.

If you’re so inclined, do feel free to read whatever you want to read and watch whatever you want to watch from all the media outlets and fringe blogs that are willing to go down with this ship, but just remember that this ship is indeed going down.

  1. I am not so sure that the discussion with Sergey Lavrov and Sergey Kislyak is something that would make the assertion of Russian interference in the elections, if true, more likely to be true. If Sergey Lavrov and Sergey Kislyak believed the story about Russian interference in the elections was wrong, it could be upsetting (i.e. infuriating ) to a number of Russians and could explain why Trump characterized Comey as ‘a nut job’. In Trump’s situation with that conversation, Trump couldn’t deny there was any such story since it keeps running in various media outlets, Trump definitely wouldn’t want to say the story was true, so one of the few remaining choices would be to just try to downplay what Comey has said.

  2. That would be funny (cover up was to hide being with hookers) except it is virtually impossible that is true. Even well prior to Trump running for President, Trump was a well know person and ‘in the public spotlight’. If such things were going on, someone would have certainly noticed and reported on it in the newspapers, not in some secret intelligence report.
