Fire Jugglers

Fire Jugglers

Remember: Nothing should surprise you anymore. With that in mind, the number of Republican senators poised to challenge Joe Biden's Electoral College win grew to 12 on Saturday. So, essentially a quarter of Senate GOPers are disputing the election result. When Josh Hawley announced he'd lodge an objection, lending support to what was previously seen as a farcical bid by dozens of House members to overturn the election, no one was particularly taken aback. But on Saturday, there was a palpable

  1. These “Fire Jugglers” are followers of Col Kurtz in Apocalypse Now:

“The horror, the horror… If I had ten divisions of those men, our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral… and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling… without passion… without judgment… without judgment! Because it’s judgment that defeats us.”

  2. I think Pence has his one shot at the next election this week. He can do the old”truth, justice and the American way”
and get a rally around the flag moment. Do these fellows not know about Trumps history of spitting everyone out at some point. Enough Republicans in both houses know this to make it past this point.
What did the greeks have to say? The best form of government is a good King, the worst a bad King, Democracy is a safe middle. Another fact forgotten by so many Christians is that a defacto state religion does not do many of them any good. Give unto Caesar what is Caesars, and in this country Caesar is whoever is duly elected.
This no longer has anything to do with the election. Pure power grab.Window dressing.

  3. Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Braun, Steve Daines, Ron Johnson, John Kennedy, James Lankford, Bill Hagerty, Cynthia Lummis, Roger Marshall, and Tommy Tuberville — history will know them as the anti-democracy caucus and consign them to the same category as Jefferson Davis, Alexander Stevens, William Lancey, and other white supremacists who dragged the country into civil war. Shameful, gutless behavior.

  4. If the Republicans (or any party for that matter) had control of the House and Senate, could they override the results of any presidential election. If the answer is a theoretical yes, I wonder what vision lawmakers had in mind when they created it. On the surface it looks like a wormhole to instant autocracy. Someone please tell me there’s a hidden circuit breaker somewhere.

  5. Democrats have made token objections to accepting the electoral college vote in the past, most notably Barbara Boxer in 2004, as a protest over voter suppression in Ohio. I didn’t hear about this at the time or wasn’t paying attention. So there’s precedent, but not with the world watching so closely. With somewhere between 2 and 12 hours (or more) of debate ahead of us, I wonder if there’s a chance that this will be exactly the forum for some of the more eloquent Democratic congressmen to really explain to the country, and the world, why Donald Trump didn’t win. Confront the evidence. Lay out the premises and results of all of the lawsuits. Explain why the judges tossed the cases. Explain that Trump didn’t actually sue on the basis of fraud because he didn’t want to perjure himself. Of course the hardcore QAnoners won’t be swayed. But there could be some Republicans, perhaps even a substantial number, that will be hearing for the first time the evidence and the details. It might not be a bad thing to have Congress discuss the results of the election in public.

Of course, I could be wrong.

  6. Not sure what recounts or failed legal cases will persuade tens of millions of Trump cultists that the
Election was fair. In the end, convincing them is all that matters…..and they will not be convinced.
Cruz and his gang are only interested in keeping those voters……..not in overturning the election. Is
There really a downside for them?
