Jeff Bezos’s Net Worth Has Grown By 23 Donald Trumps Since Trump’s Election

Donald Trump is no fan of Jeff Bezos. Perhaps you noticed.

The president’s (completely one-sided) war of words with the Amazon mogul dates back quite a while, but it kicked into high gear last March when an irritated Trump began making overt threats against the company in a thinly-veiled effort to silence the Washington Post.

“I have stated my concerns with Amazon long before the Election. Unlike others, they pay little or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!”, Trump shrieked on March 29.

That tweet came a day after Axios reported that the President is “obsessed” with the company and wants to “go after it”.

Although Trump attempted to pitch his broadsides as an effort to help “everyday” small business owners avoid falling into the Bezos black hole, the president’s motivation is first and foremost tied to his personal vendetta against “the AmazonWashingtonPost” (as he calls it) and secondarily related to complaints from rich people. “Trump’s real estate buddies tell him that Amazon is killing shopping malls and brick-and-mortar retailers”, Axios said, in the same March article.

A couple of days later, Trump took it up another notch. “I am right about Amazon costing the United States Post Office massive amounts of money for being their Delivery Boy”, he said on April 3, before insisting that “Amazon should pay these costs (plus) and not have them bourne by the American Taxpayer.”

On May 18, the Washington Post (ironically, and probably not coincidentally) reported that Trump personally tried to pressure the U.S. Postmaster General to double the rate the Postal Service charges Amazon.com.

And on, and on.

When last we heard from Trump on Amazon, he was making fun of Bezos’s divorce and hurling absurd insults Jeff’s way via a ridiculously unimaginative nickname. Here’s what he tweeted last month:

So sorry to hear the news about Jeff Bozo being taken down by a competitor whose reporting, I understand, is far more accurate than the reporting in his lobbyist newspaper, the Amazon Washington Post. Hopefully the paper will soon be placed in better & more responsible hands!

Of course the real reason Trump hates Bezos might not even be the Washington Post’s coverage of this presidency. Rather, Trump is almost assuredly perturbed at the fact that a man who owns an unfriendly media outlet is roughly 47 times richer than him. And that’s assuming you believe Trump is really worth ~$2.8 billion.

Well, with all of that as the context, we thought it was highly amusing (and well worth highlighting) that of all the billionaires in the world, none has gotten richer than Bezos since the election. Jeff’s net worth has risen by an astounding $68 billion since November 9, 2016, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index.

That means that since Trump was elected, Jeff’s net worth has risen by approximately 23 Donald Trumps (in net worth terms).

Responding to a Super Bowl ad for the Post, Don Jr. said the following on Twitter (and yes, “commercial” was spelled wrong in the original):

You know how MSM journalists could avoid having to spend millions on a comercial to gain some undeserved credibility?

How about report the news and not their leftist BS for a change.

The good news, Jr., is that whatever Jeff spent on that commercial is pennies to him and very much unlike your father, Bezos doesn’t need to beg Deutsche Bank for a loan if he wants to “refurbish” one of his facilities.

    1. lol yeah that’s why he hides his tax returns, because he just has too much money. someone as egotistical as trump definitely wouldn’t want to rub that in your face, definitely not.

    2. Bezos sells $1,000,000,000 of Amazon stock a year to finance space travel. Trump grifts people out of hundreds of dollars because he needs to.

  1. It’s frankly pretty insane that this is even possible when Amazon makes basically no profit. Trump is (gasp) actually correct in they pay little to no taxes because of it.

Don’t get me wrong. I understand the Amazon business model better than most. I get why it’s so valuable. But to become the world’s richest person without actually turning any meaningful profit is… well, i think that’s really unprecedented.
