Local GOP Moron Christina Hagan Tries (And Fails) To Pass Off Video Of Morocco As Mexico

This is Ohio GOP congressional candidate Christina Hagan:

moron

Here’s a little background information on Christina from a profile that appeared in the Washington Post earlier this week:

Seventy-six days until the primary election, and another chance to win them over. Christina Hagan’s heels click on the floor of the small-town community center. “Does anyone have a flag pin?” she asks, realizing that she left hers on an outfit she wore to a chili cook-off, or a meeting with a mayor, or all the times she went door-knocking to say, “I don’t want to bug you too much, but I’m running for Congress.”

More than 400 women – a record number – are expected to run for Congress this year, and 29-year-old Hagan is part of the surge. The vast majority are Democrats, motivated by the 2016 election to get angry and get organized. Hagan is inspired by Donald Trump, too – just not in the same way. She’s inspired to help him achieve his goals.

[…]

She is well aware that hers is the party known for its aging white men – a description that fits every current Republican U.S. senator and congressman from Ohio, and every previous representative of Ohio’s 16th District, where she is running. At a time when the GOP is trying, again, to diversify, here is Hagan: an attractive, well-spoken young mother with seven years of experience as a state representative, a job she says she is the youngest woman in Ohio history to hold. Her campaign consultant calls her a “gift to the Republican Party.”

Yay! That’s a fun story, right?

Well as it turns out, you can go ahead and put Christina in the “moron” camp because guess what? She’s using the same bullshit propaganda strategy that Trump used in one of his campaign ads to inflame anti-migrant sentiment.

Have a look at this video (which, as of Friday morning, is still her pinned tweet on Twitter):

Note that part about “stopping the flow of illegal drugs and immigrants into our country.” Here’s the screengrab from that part:

borders

Yeah, so the only problem there is that those aren’t “our borders.”

Rather, those are migrants fleeing into Morocco.

And you know, you’d think she would have known better. Because as alluded to above, Trump tried this same shit back in 2016 and was called out on it.

But then again, maybe she’s the smart one here. Because it worked for Trump when it came to duping gullible voters, so why can’t it work for Christina?

To be clear, what needs to “stop” isn’t immigration, it’s people like Christina blatantly lying to voters in order to play off their fears and prejudices to advance their own political fortunes.

As one person on Twitter noted, they might as well just start using clips of World War Z and see if anyone notices…

  1. to be clear, this kind of shit (i.e. the video in this post) is what’s giving the GOP such a bad name.

i mean sure, there are going to be people who hate Republicans regardless, but this kind of blatant race-baiting, lying, and backing Trump’s poisonous brand of populism (which, by the way, multiple Republican stalwarts have decried as batshit crazy and insanely dangerous) is going to kill the party.

this has moved well beyond debates about supply-side econ, and Christian values versus more liberal values, etc.

this is starting to be about crazy/stupid/racist versus everyone else. Republicans shouldn’t keep allowing this to happen because I know a lot of Republicans (politicians included) who think it’s ridiculous. those people need to stand up and say: “this is not our party. this is something else. this is not who Republicans are.”

    1. The problem is while many republicans might disagree, they don’t really give a shit as long as they have the votes. This will undoubtedly lead to some sort of crisis within the GOP

    2. Actually I think that is the border between Morocco & Ceuta. People going from Morocco to Ceuta.

Ceuta is an enclave of Spain that is in Africa. Yeah.. these things still exist!

BTW, I’m not a smart ass, I just have travelled to Morocco a few times & saw that video before.

  2. I don’t know who said it first but, “I didn’t leave the Reps, they left me.”
I planted yard signs for Nixon, and all the Rep candidates until 2000.
Last go around I voted for Jill.
I like Chile, even though I can’t vote there since I’m a resident alien.
They have 5 viable political parties, which makes it more fun yet less acrimonious.

  3. But… but… I thought it was the 60lb bags of cocaine flying over the wall that we’re supposed to be afraid of!! I guess Mr T thinks cocaine normally comes in Costco bulk size since that’s how big the bags are they drop off at HIS home.
