Earlier this month, Donald Trump told the Wall Street Journal the following about North Korea:
I probably have a very good relationship with Kim Jong Un. I have relationships with people. I think you people are surprised.
Remember that? If not, that’s ok, because he doesn’t seem to remember it either. According to the White House, he didn’t actually say that. Rather, he claims he said this:
I’d probably have a very good relationship with Kim Jong Un. I have relationships with people. I think you people are surprised.
See the difference? If not, here’s a bright red “FAKE NEWS” alert released via the official, verified press secretary Twitter feed:
And here’s Trump:
“Lordy, I hope there are tapes.” And indeed there are “tapes”. But hilariously, both Trump and the Journal claim the same tape validates their version of the interview. You can decide for yourself:

In any event, it doesn’t matter. Here’s what we said with regard to this absurd feud over the word “I”:
Trump doesn’t and wouldn’t (i.e. it doesn’t matter if he said “I” or “I’d”) have a “good relationship” with Kim Jong-Un because Kim Jong-Un is just using Trump as a convenient justification to fulfill Pyongyang’s nuclear aspirations and now that that’s done, he’s going to go ahead and extent the olive branch to the South and just cut Trump out of the loop.
Well in a testament to the veracity of our assessment, Kim has responded to Trump’s “bigger button” threat and Pyongyang’s rhetoric is characteristically hilarious.
Here’s that response as it appears in the state-run Rodong Sinmun newspaper:
The spasm of Trump in the new year reflects the desperate mental state of a loser who failed to check the vigorous advance of the army and people of the DPRK. He is making (a) bluff only to be diagnosed as a psychopath.
Indeed. It would appear that Kim is acutely aware of how much Trump hates being called a “loser”.
One thing we would note is that Trump no longer has to “make a bluff” to be “diagnosed as a psychopath”. Everyone knows he’s a lunatic thanks in no small part to Michael Wolff’s new book and guess what? North Korea has commented on that too.
Here’s what Pyongyang had to say a couple of days ago about the book which is of course named after Trump’s August threat to Kim:
The book’s sales reflect rapidly surging anti-Trump sentiments in the international community. The anti-Trump book is sweeping all over the world so Trump is being massively humiliated worldwide. Its popularity foretells Trump’s political demise.
North Korea is literally trolling Trump using Michael Wolff’s book sales.
So two questions. First, does anyone still think Trump has “a very good relationship” with Kim? And second, who sounds more like a legitimate world leader, Kim or the guy who called himself a “very stable genius” on Twitter this month?
I’ll say one thing for the short fat despot, he’s got a better sense of humour than the big fat wanna-be despot.
Well said
“he’s going to go ahead and extent the olive branch to the South and just cut Trump out of the loop.”
That’s because the South actually wants it. Blood is thicker than water. Also, if you’re in the South I imagine you want to deescalate any tensions, being located mere minutes away from potential shelling.
Thus US provocation frightens the South, and we can see it doesn’t intimidate the North one bit. On the contrary, US provocation feeds the North propaganda machine justifying the regime.
So the provocation is actually counterproductive to US interests, isn’t it?… How I see it, BICBW.
