Well, it’s “Executive Time” for Donald Trump and you know what that means, right?
It means extensive “document study.”
I’m just kidding. It’s means watching Fox and tweeting. No, I’m serious. Recall this from Axios:
President Trump is starting his official day much later than he did in the early days of his presidency, often around 11am, and holding far fewer meetings, according to copies of his private schedule shown to Axios. This is largely to meet Trump’s demands for more “Executive Time,” which almost always means TV and Twitter time alone in the residence, officials tell us.
One certainly imagines that “Executive Time” on weekends pretty much means “all day” and on Sunday morning – when he could be tweeting something reassuring to the public after Saturday’s literal ICBM scare in Hawaii – he’s back at it with the DACA tweets.
Trump is furious about this right now because earlier this week, a federal judge in California temporarily blocked his attempt to end the program. That means the administration was forced to resume receiving renewal applications. Here’s the statement from USCIS:
Jan. 13, 2018, Update: Due to a federal court order, USCIS has resumed accepting requests to renew a grant of deferred action under DACA. Until further notice, and unless otherwise provided in this guidance, the DACA policy will be operated on the terms in place before it was rescinded on Sept. 5, 2017.
Meanwhile, the DACA debate now threatens to cause a government shutdown. On Thursday, the President rejected a bi-partisan immigration proposal that apparently included a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children and more $1.5 billion toward that goddamn border wall he wants. But that wasn’t good enough for President “stable genius” who, after reaching peak exasperation, shrieked something about “shitholes” and called it a day.
Fast forward to Sunday and we get this:
DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don’t really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our Military.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 14, 2018
Got that? Now Democrats “don’t really want” DACA – which is weird because they do want it. A lot.
Additionally, Trump is now claiming that Democrats are trying to rob the military which, according to his calculations, “desperately” needs more cash, presumably to protect Hawaii from the threat of incoming ICBMs now that he’s gotten us into a nuclear standoff with North Korea and also to track down “evil” Muslims scheming from their bases in “shithole” countries.
So you know, this doesn’t bode particularly well for next week. Stay tuned because we’re almost sure you haven’t heard that last out of Trump on Sunday.
The majority of Americans will see this episode as another of Trump’s B.S. His presidency will crumble further.
The Prez is inching ever so closer to a straight-jacket . Would it surprise ANYone if one day in the not to distant future the Secret Service hauling our “Liar in Chief” out of the Oval Office drooling and tied-up, screaming about the black guy, Hilary and something about E-mails being found under his bed.
This lunatic watches way too much TV. For one, he thinks the way to work his deal on this elusive wall is to draw a hard bargain for it — make them give up something to get another something they want more, like the east coast mobsters are portrayed on cop shows all the time. I would not be surprised to learn that is how he runs his business now. However, he is not going to get his way on this deal. These two situations are not related; and in addition, what he wants is ludicrous and would be ineffective and a complete waste of billions of dollars! Perhaps, until he has collected the necessary funds from Mexico, this discussion should be tabled.
The truth is these DACA youths have earned a more respectful resolution. Most of them are well educated and highly productive and a positive influence in our society. May I mention, far more so than trump is! Plus the DACA plan was in place a decade ago and he should have no rights to end it or disrupt it; he needs to shut his ignorant mouth and get out of the way.
Would someone please wake up the Republican members and tell them their own future is at risk if they continue to ignore this bull in the proverbial china shop!
Amidst all the allegations that Obama acted illegally by circumventing Congress, people forget that he begged Boehner to introduce an immigration bill that both parties agreed was needed. Boehner, however, refused and told Obama if he wanted something on immigration, then he must do it himself.
