‘He’s Ready To Explode’: 18 Officials, Advisers Tell WaPo Trump ‘May Be Doomed’

To be sure, the Trump administration was doomed from the outset. Everyone with any sense knew that. The agenda was unrealistic, the campaign promises were laughably hyperbolic, and most importantly, we’re talking about Donald Trump. A narcissistic, billionaire who ran on a platform that combined populism with (highly questionable) business credentials in order to dupe working class Americans into voting against their own interests.

Predictably, it’s been a train wreck of epic proportions. But over the past two months (so, since the bungled response to Charlottesville and the escalation of rhetoric regarding North Korea), the timeline on the inevitable demise of the Trump presidency seems to have accelerated materially. In short, it looks to be in an uncontrolled dive – a terminal decline.

If we had to guess, the pressure and constant, around-the-clock scrutiny has weighed on a man whose skin is notoriously thin. Remember, we’re talking about a guy here who takes himself so seriously that he couldn’t even find the humor in the USFL debacle:

Tollin

And so, he’s taken the Twitter tantrums and insults up notch after notch after notch, attacking everyone from world leaders to celebrities to professional athletes to sportscasters to Democrats to media outlets and, most recently, to a prominent member of his own party, Tennessee Senator Bob Corker.

Now, according to a new Washington Post article that cites no fewer than 18 White House officials and outside advisers, Trump has indeed gone into self-destruct mode.

“In a matter of days, Trump has torched bridges all around him, nearly imploded an informal deal with Democrats to protect young undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children, and plunged himself into the culture wars on issues ranging from birth control to the national anthem,” the Post writes, recapping the madness before adding that this is in part an effort to rescue his reputation among a base that, as we detailed on Monday, is abandoning him. “In doing so, Trump is laboring to solidify his standing with his populist base and return to the comforts of his campaign – especially after the embarrassing defeat of Sen. Luther Strange in last month’s Alabama GOP special election, despite the president’s trip there to campaign with the senator.”

Trump is particularly angry with Rex Tillerson, the Post goes on to write. You’re reminded that Corker’s response to the Tillerson “moron” story was one of the catalysts for Trump’s Sunday Twitter attack on the Tennessee lawmaker.

“I think we are in pressure cooker territory,” a person close to Trump who spoke to the Post on a condition of anonymity said, after comparing the President to “a whistling teapot” that, when it’s not allowed “to blow off steam, can turn into a pressure cooker and explode.”

Another Trump loyalist who spoke to WaPo reminds you that “Corker has many more friends in the Senate than Trump does” which means “the rift could dash chances for a tax law overhaul or other meaningful legislation.” This person’s conclusion: “His presidency could be doomed.”

Trump is also said to be extremely insecure about “Big Luther’s” loss in Alabama (which, don’t forget, was in part due to Steve Bannon’s efforts to undercut Trump’s endorsement). Here’s the Post on that:

The president has groused to numerous White House aides about his concerns over his popularity with “my people” – his base. He blames the Republican establishment and others for failing to enact his agenda and making him look feckless, and is unhappy with losing in Alabama, according to people briefed on White House deliberations.

And see that gets at another problem for Trump: what to do with Steve Bannon. He’s now recruiting challengers for GOP incumbents in an effort to further his quest to effectively implement the very populist revolution that Trump promised on the campaign trail. Although Bannon hasn’t yet said this explicitly, what he’s bound to do is say something like this: “vote for my candidates, they’ll do what Trump couldn’t get done.”

We’re going to repeat what we have said from the very first day Trump took office: feel free to go down with this ship if you choose, but don’t delude yourself into thinking it’s not sinking.

    1. The difference is the learning curve — what they didn’t know then, they sure as hell know now!

You could also apply the old “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”.

  1. I would love to think that this is the case, but his base still supports him in enough numbers to keep the spineless GOP ‘leadership’ from taking him down. So this is just more wishful thinking.

    1. It’s not the base loss that worries the GOP’rs… it’s their own greed! If they were smarter, which clearly they are not, they would realize they could win back a lot of repub support if they stood for themselves and this country and tell their insane boss to hit the road. Spineless and Brainless.

    1. Hi Michael, we’re going to go out on a limb here and say that’s probably because as of this moment, he’s the only person that’s guaranteed to run.

so you know, pretty easy to be “ahead” when you’re the only one officially running.

meanwhile, Predictit odds for Michael Riley being a stone, cold idiot are 100% to 0%.

      enjoy your day.

    2. Perhaps you should read something other than some college kid’s crapola — I think Ms. Gladstone has an equal amount of food service experience as she does political internship. Perhaps you are also one of the worker bee’s just trying to spread your website. Regardless, if you stay linked with trump, you are doomed to fail. I googled some stuff and read thru the sites and when I landed on Aristotle International and saw Newsmax….well, that’s where I ended it.

And speaking of silly blather…LOL!!! Your second post … grasping to hold on
