Well, Donald Trump is up super-early on Tuesday and he’s got some things on his mind and you know what that means: Twitter.
First of all, Trump is sick of the NFL. See in his mind, he hasn’t “won” this battle yet because players are still kneeling for the anthem. So what he’s going to do now is pull the same kind of nonsense he tried when he famously suggested that the libel laws be changed so he could silence the New York Times. Have a look:
So two things there: first of all, the players aren’t “disrespecting our anthem, flag and country” (none of which are proper nouns despite Trump’s spelling by the way). You’re reminded that this had nothing whatsoever to do with Trump until he made it about Trump. You can read the real rationale behind the protests written by the man who started them alongside Colin Kaepernick here. Second, don’t forget that Trump is now using this crusade as a fund raising tool. On Monday evening we learned that he is now asking for donations to “support” Mike Pence who the campaign says is being crucified by the “fake” media for leaving the Colts-49ers game. Trump is stoking this so he can make money off of it – surprise, surprise.
Next on Trump’s Tuesday Twitter hit list: Democrats, who he says “don’t care about safety for the U.S.A.”:
Obviously, that’s ridiculous. No serious politician would claim that Democrats “don’t care about the safety” of the country. That is the kind of thing that people like Alex Jones say. It’s not even a straw man. It’s a straw “witch.” And on top of that, this comes just days after he called Chuck Schumer and begged for some kind of bipartisan deal on healthcare.
Speaking of healthcare, here’s Trump:
That’s of course a reference to the executive order he plans to sign on healthcare (previewed here over the weekend) and suffice to say he’s lying. It won’t “give great healthcare (which is neither a proper noun nor spelled with a rogue capital “C” in the middle of it) to millions of people. And it definitely won’t do it “fast.”
