  1. As a general optimist I would like to point out that the nation cannot be going through as tough times as is made out in many of these missives. I have been through some parts. I recognize in my past many troubles you identify. These troubles seem to have persisted since long before we arrived on the scene.

    However, I am deeply troubled by a malingering notion that lately we as a democratic people have been backsliding.

    I wonder if freedom is like compounding investment returns (or losses). If this is an acceptable comparison we should be very weary not to become compacent or backslide.

    Industrious, competitive people are one of our greatest advantages in the USA. The difficult part is to restrict the power of special interest groups in order to uphold the fidelity the people enjoy in their elected officials.
