  1. Perhaps half of Republican members and half of Democratic members can vote a centrist candidate to the Speakership.   Are there any Republican “elder statesmen” type who are close enough to moderate to fit the bill?  I’d think many Republican members are increasingly wanting to see Gaetz et al stripped of their power, while Democratic members probably have a list of policy and procedural concessions that could sway their votes (or their abstentions, which would do almost the same thing).

  2. I was hoping you would comment on this event. It is clear to me that the country has made a grave mistake is allowing the Republicans to have power in the house. They have shown time and time since the 90’s don’t know how to govern.

  3. Was the political calculation by the Dems in supporting the ousting of Kevin worth the risk?  I’m sure they did not like the Speaker and enjoy delivering a political blow, but they could have kept him in the position and not allow the fringe GoPers their goal of creating chaos, there is some wisdom behind the “devil you know is better than the devil you don’t” popular saying, the risks in this act remain unknown.

  4. The entertainment value alone is worth watching our government wither away. I got a huge laugh out of seeing Democrats unanimously voting McCarthy out. I don’t know where we go from here, but sometimes the schadenfreude is worth whatever consequences may be coming.
