  1. Maybe Rouhani is right and the Mideast is on the edge of collapse. Isn’t it about time to let it finish the job? Other than the presence of oil, which will eventually run out or become mostly irrelevant, little comes from the area that contributes to the global economy. Since there is nothing much that supports the area besides the oil, no one there can afford to let it go unprotected. God knows we have armed everyone we like there so they all have plenty of hardware to blow each other up if they want. Maybe on its own the area will figure out what stability has to look like. Then the only danger to the US is that the “winners” won’t like us. Maybe, but I’ll bet $5 they’ll like our money. Meanwhile, the US can get on with fixing the US. It always galled me that we went over to Iraq on a false pretext, spent a trillion dollars to overthrow a guy who was fighting us with weapons we sold him so he could destroy Iran, and then we spent hundreds of billions more on “nation building” so the country wouldn’t fall into total anarchy. That process largely failed so now what have we got? Two trillion less than we would have had if we had stayed home, money which would have repaired some our aging infrastructure like our nation’s roads and bridges, the power grid, the crumbling sewer systems of our cities, etc. The wars we have fought in continuously since 9/11 have done nothing for the growth of our economy, the prosperity of our people, or any other noble purpose. It’s not overseas terror we need to stop, it’s our own version on the streets of Chicago, Kansas City and other large towns, as well as the daily mass shootings we endure. Come on folks, time to get straight.
