Acosta Accosted, And Other Video Highlights From Trump’s Wild Midterm Press Conference

Around lunchtime on Wednesday, Donald Trump strode to the podium donning a particularly offensive shade of orange face paint, to deliver remarks following midterm elections that saw the GOP lose control of the House.

To be clear, Trump had already said plenty by the time he showed up (late) for his post-election press conference. Specifically, the President regaled his ~50 million Twitter followers with all manner of egregious nonsense, including the patently ridiculous contention that leaders of foreign nations phoned him to congratulate him on what he’s trying desperately to bill as a “big win”.

Everyone knew Trump’s Wednesday press conference would devolve into a circus, but I’m not sure anyone expected it to be quite as wild as it turned out to be. In fact, there’s a strong argument to be made that today’s spectacle topped both the September 24 “George Washington” presser and even one-upped the infamous “both sides” meltdown that unfolded on August 15, 2017.

It’s difficult to decide where to start when it comes to bringing you the video highlight reel, so we’ll present these in no particular order, although obviously, the low point came when Trump called CNN’s Jim Acosta a “rude, terrible person” as a White House aide attempted to literally pry the mic from Jim’s hands.

That’s clearly beyond the pale, and I suppose it marks a kind of nadir for the already contentious relationship between Acosta and the White House. April Ryan (another Trump foe) was instructed on multiple to occasions to “just sit down.”

As far as his tax returns are concerned, Trump claims the real problem isn’t so much that he doesn’t want to release them, but rather that “people would not understand them”.

If you’re wondering whether Trump is concerned about the “blizzard of subpoenas” everyone expects from Democrats now that they control the House, the President doubled down on what he tweeted Wednesday morning, essentially threatening to retaliate in kind.

On the Mueller probe, Trump was unequivocal: He can “fire everybody right now” if that’s what suits him. That of course isn’t entirely true. If the President went that route with a Democratic House, he would risk a backlash of epic proportions and would also put Republicans in an extremely awkward position.

On abortion, Trump has a plan, but unfortunately, he is “not able to explain it to you” other than to note that he “has a solution and nobody else does.”

As far as that “major middle class tax cut” goes, you’re not getting it. Plain and simple. Which isn’t surprising because that was nothing more than a half-hearted election gambit.

This went on for what seemed like hours, but you probably get the idea. It was a spectacularly laughable ramble-fest that, again, has a legitimate claim on the top spot on the list of most absurd Trump press conferences.

For the sake of your own sanity, we’ll just spare you the rest of the visuals from this disaster and leave you with one quote from Trump who, when asked whether he’s serious about uniting the country around a “softer tone”, said this:

Look, I would love to see unity, peace, love, and any other word you want to use… If they would cover me fairly, which they don’t.

  1. I am astonished and ashamed that our president behaves like this. I am accustomed to lies and unacceptable tones during his talks but this was a new low. As Americans we need to try to let him know we expect and demand better. Only we can help him to be a better president and it has to be through polls now (voting only sent a minor message) and through ratings and through ending the social media following. Enough is enough we deserve better!!!
