It’s getting harder and harder to determine what’s real and what isn’t with this administration.
I wasn’t even going to comment on acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe’s chat with the Senate Intelligence Committee, but it’s so surreal that I think it’s worth mentioning if for no other reason than to remind you (again) of just how insane this has gotten.
As a reminder, McCabe is testifying in place of Comey who, as we noted when the former Director was first fired, was set to appear before a panel investigating global threats to the US and its allies.
Ok, so skim these bullets from Bloomberg that hit the high points from the testimony:
- “There has been no effort to impede our investigation,” acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe tells Senate Intelligence Cmte.
- “You cannot stop the men and women of the FBI”
- Also says he would notify Senate Intelligence Cmte of any effort to influence investigation into possible collusion between Trump campaign and Russia
- McCabe and other intelligence officials testifying on global threats unanimously say they agree with intelligence report that found Russia sought to undermine U.S. election and hurt Hillary Clinton’s campaign
- Earlier, Senate Intelligence Cmte Chairman Richard Burr began his questioning by asking McCabe whether he ever heard his former boss, James Comey, tell President Trump he wasn’t the subject of investigation
- “I can’t comment on any conversations the director may have had with the president,” McCabe replied
While it’s nice that McCabe acknowledged the fact that everyone “unanimously” agrees that Russia meddled in the election, I’m not entirely sure what to make of these statements:
- There has been no effort to impede our investigation
- You cannot stop the men and women of the FBI
- [I’ll] notify Senate Intelligence Cmte of any effort to influence investigation into possible collusion between Trump campaign and Russia
Let’s just take those one at a time…
“There has been no effort to impede our investigation.” Other than Trump firing the FBI Director.
“You cannot stop the men and women of the FBI.” Unless of course you fire them. In which case you definitely can.
“[I’ll] notify Senate Intelligence Cmte of any effort to influence investigation into possible collusion between Trump campaign and Russia.” Notification #1: Trump fired my boss a couple of days ago.
Again: surreal.
Yep, Sur-fuc*ing-real…………
