Surprise!
Devin Nunes got his “evidence” that supposedly supports Right-wing radio’s Breitbart’s the President’s contention he was inappropriately eavesdropped upon by the Obama administration from two White House officials.
Who could have seen that coming, right? Recall what we said on Wednesday while lampooning a ridiculous Wall Street Journal opinion piece:
WSJ: Mr. Nunes blundered when he informed the White House about some information he received without first telling committee Democrats.
HR: So “Mr.” Nunes didn’t “inform” the White House about “some information he received.” Rather, he quite clearly “received” that information from the White House in the first place and then made it a point to show back up at the White House the next day to make it look like he was telling the President something he had “discovered” (as opposed to being handed) the day before.
Fast forward 24 hours (give or take) and we get this from The New York Times:
A pair of White House officials played a role in providing Representative Devin Nunes of California, the Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, with the intelligence reports that showed President Trump and his associates were incidentally swept up in foreign surveillance by American spy agencies.
The revelation that White House officials assisted in the disclosure of the intelligence reports – which Mr. Nunes then discussed with President Trump – is likely to fuel criticism that the intelligence chairman has been too eager to do the bidding of the Trump administration while his committee is supposed to be conducting an independent investigation of Russia’s meddling in the last presidential election.
Several current American officials identified the White House officials as Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the senior director for intelligence at the National Security Council, and Michael Ellis, a lawyer who works on national security issues at the White House Counsel’s Office and formerly worked on the staff of the House Intelligence Committee.
And it gets better. Guess who brought on Ezra Cohen-Watnick?
Mr. Cohen-Watnick is a former Defense Intelligence Agency official who was originally brought to the White House by Michael T. Flynn, the former national security adviser.
Isn’t that great?
So Devin Nunes got his information from a guy hired by Michael Flynn, who Sally Yates was going to talk about in an open hearing that Nunes abruptly canceled for no apparent reason.
I’m sure there’s no connection there.
Just to recap, now we have Devin Nunes secretly visiting the White House after the director of the FBI discloses a probe into the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Russia, and during that secret visit, Nunes received “evidence” to support a Trump tweet that was based on a Breitbart article, that was based on a Right-wing radio rant, and the guy who gave Nunes the “intelligence” was hired by Michael Flynn who was fired for lying about colluding with Russians, and that collusion was brought to the attention of the President by Sally Yates who was fired by Trump and who we would have heard from this week except for the fact that Devin Nunes cancelled the hearing for no reason at all.
Enough said.
Here’s a visual summary:
But wait, there’s more. Lt. Gen. McMaster, Flynn’s successor, attempted to get rid of Cohen-Watnick but was overruled by the White House. According to a report in Politico a couple weeks ago , the decision to keep Cohen-Watnick in his current position was made by Trump himself.

It’s just one thing after another. When the fuck are the Republican party going to bring down Trump? They’d better get on the right side of history and fast for everyone’s sake.
