Larry Kudlow Called Out By Chuck Todd For Single Worst Call In Modern Economic History

Chuck Todd did it.

He confronted Larry Kudlow with what very well might have been the single worst economic call in modern history.

On December 7, 2007, in an article for the National Review, Kudlow said the following about the Bush economy:

There is no recession. Despite all the doom and gloom from the economic pessimistas, the resilient U.S economy continues moving ahead quarter after quarter, year after year defying dire forecasts and delivering positive growth. These guys are going to wind up with egg on their faces.

Kudlow was right about one thing – there was a “guy” who ended up with “egg on his face”.

Spoiler alert: It was Larry.

Because he quite literally wrote those words on the eve of one of the worst financial meltdowns in the history of the world.

Unlike Peter Navarro, Kudlow isn’t universally despised, which is why folks tend to give him a break on that call, despite the fact that it is maddeningly tempting to cite it each and every time he shows up on television.

As you can see, Larry was generous enough to “plead guilty”. You almost feel sorry for him – almost.

But not quite. Because at this juncture, Kudlow is acutely aware of his role in perpetuating an agenda that is overtly bad for the health of the global economy and threatens to derail prosperity on a global scale for decades to come.

If the US yield curve has anything to say about it, Larry is about 12-18 months from getting more “egg on his face”.

Forgive us for being “pessimistas”.

  1. Hiring the Keystone cops to provide your security works just fine when there are no threats. When danger lurks, and you need to inspire confidence among those at risk, they’re not the best choice.

  2. Larry Kudlow is the Fairy Godfather of supply-side economics. He wears ruby slippers inside his dress shoes, clicks his heels, and repeats: “There are no cuts like tax cuts”.

  3. Hiring Kudlow for a top government economic position is like hiring Tom Cruise as a Navy fighter pilot. Just because someone can play a role doesn’t mean they can do the job.
