Ok America, get your mugs, because the President is comin’ in hot with some high octane, Tuesday “covfefe.”
Remember what we said on Monday afternoon? Here’s a quick recap:
Incredibly, Trump managed to get through the day without doing anything too egregious – I mean, he told 40 million people that the widow of a dead soldier is a liar, but as far as Trump goes, that’s small potatoes. Normally by the closing bell he’s tried to start a nuclear war and berated a half-dozen sitting Senators, so all in all, a quiet day.
Yes, “normally by the closing bell he’s tried to start a nuclear war and berated a half-dozen sitting Senators.” Well speaking of berating Senators, Mr. President: speak on it…
A couple of things there.
Obviously, that’s the President of the United States saying a Senator from his own party “couldn’t get elected dog catcher”, so there’s that right off the bat and it speaks to Corker’s contention that Trump is unhinged. And Corker would be the same Senator who Trump derisively called “Liddle Bob” and who the President definitely needs on tax reform.
But also, all of that is lies. Trump’s narrative on Corker’s role in the Iran Deal is revisionist history and frankly, for him to be peddling that lie to 40 million people on Twitter is dangerous. Also, the endorsement thing is a lie too. Remember what Corker’s chief of staff, Todd Womack said about that:
The President called Senator Corker and asked him to reconsider his decision not to seek reelection and reaffirmed that he would have endorsed him, as he has said many times.
So you know, who you gonna believe? Corker’s chief of staff or Pennywise the racist clown President?
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Trump is torpedoing his own agenda. He’s Plaxico Burress. Or, as we put it in a piece for DealBreaker when the Corker spat first started:
What could go wrong, right? I mean, in the worst case scenario, the GOP manages to ram a watered down version of the tax proposal down everyone’s throats thus cementing Trump’s first legislative victory, the market will cheer, taking us up another [fill in the blank] percent by year-end. Meanwhile, analysts will lift earnings estimates to incorporate (get it?) tax reform, thus providing a nice tailwind into 2018.
Enter Donald Trump.
Corker should just go ahead and retweet what he said in response to Trump’s initial October tirade:
is "dog catcher" an elected office?
