And, here we go.
Speaking at an impromptu press conference in New York, North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho has just taken things up a notch on Donald Trump.
Following Trump’s assertion that if what Ri said last week regarding the inevitability of Pyongyang’s missiles hitting the U.S. mainland reflects Kim’s position, North Korea “won’t be around long,” the North has responded as follows:
- Ri Yong Ho says President Donald Trump’s recent comments amount to a declaration of war.
- Ri, speaking in New York Monday, says North Korea has the right to shoot down U.S. warplanes as part of its right to self- defense under the United Nations charter.
- Ri: all options are on the table for North Korean response

And the response from markets is immediate with USDJPY diving…
… gold spiking…
…and equities under pressure…
…the VIX hitting an 11-handle…
…and the flight to safety readily apparent in Treasurys as well…
Quick prediction. < 2% down day. Slow rise over week. War by next Monday. Have no idea what this would do to equities though. Might be perceived as bullish due to more loose policy?
This is not a joke. People, those of us who have fought in them all say the same thing war is never a good thing. Stop it, I know what is coming, of course you have to protect our country, this is not that, this is a very stupid game by two egomaniacs. Please watch the PBS Vietnam 10 part special for some perspective.
Thanks Curt, for laying it out for “them” to achieve focus.
Since “our leader” sought to keep his sorry ass back in the world with daddy, why should us, who shouldered his load, expect an intimate understanding of this situation any more than McNamara had. It took him, a looooong time to admit his “misunderstanding”.
BTW, Ken Burns has timed this epiphany of facts almost spot on.
Might be that the higher power has been working this angle.
There ain’t any atheists on patrol in “Indian Country”!
