Carl Icahn Abandons Trump

And the bad news just keeps coming.

Just hitting the wires, Carl Icahn says he will no longer act as special advisor to Trump.

  • ICAHN SAYS HE CEASED TO ACT AS SPECIAL ADVISOR TO THE PRESIDENT
  • CARL ICAHN: WON’T ACT AS SPECIAL ADVISER ON REGULATORY REFORM

Essentially, what you’ll read below says the same thing as the many letters penned by the corporate heavyweights that have cut ties with the administration this week: namely that Trump isn’t getting anything done.

Of course Icahn also takes the opportunity to inoculate himself against charges of malfeasance.

Here’s the letter:

The Honorable Donald J. Trump
President of the United States
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President:

This will confirm our conversation today in which we agreed that I would cease to act as special advisor to the President on issues relating to regulatory reform.

As I discussed with you, I’ve received a number of inquiries over the last month regarding the recent appointment of Neomi Rao as Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (or “regulatory czar,” as the press has dubbed her) — specifically questions about whether there was any overlap between her formal position and my unofficial role. As I know you are aware, the answer to that question is an unequivocal no, for the simple reason that I had no duties whatsoever.

I never had a formal position with your administration nor a policymaking role. And contrary to the insinuations of a handful of your Democratic critics, I never had access to nonpublic information or profited from my position, nor do I believe that my role presented conflicts of interest. Indeed, out of an abundance of caution, the only issues I ever discussed with you were broad matters of policy affecting the refining industry. I never sought any special benefit for any company with which I have been involved, and have only expressed views that I believed would benefit the refining industry as a whole.

Nevertheless, I chose to end this arrangement (with your blessing) because I did not want partisan bickering about my role to in any way cloud your administration or Ms. Rao’s important work. While I do not know Ms. Rao and played no part in her appointment, I am confident based on what I’ve read of her accomplishments that she is the right person for this important job.

I sincerely regret that because of your extremely busy schedule, as well as my own, I have not had the opportunity to spend nearly as much time as I’d hoped on regulatory issues. I truly appreciate the confidence you have in me and sincerely hope that the limited insights I shared have been helpful to you. I love our country which has allowed me to achieve so much and I thank you for the informal opportunity you have given me to aid it.

Sincerely,

CARL C. ICAHN

  1. You know the high pitched squealing sound a fully inflated balloon makes when you squeeze the neck of balloon letting the air vibrate through the tightly squeezed opening – that’s how the deflating Trump Administration sounds now as the air starts to come out. Pretty soon when they loose control of the balloon, the control of the air – loosing control of everything all together, the Trump balloon will just go shooting around all over the place making a loud farting sound and the Trump Administration will have realized the only destiny it ever had.

  2. Perhaps, Carl’s favorite song these days:

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
    Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin’ for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
    Sun-Shiny day.

As Paul Harvey would say, “And now you know the rest of the story.”

    1. Marty, I recall you spoke a bit on SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center) and when I saw this FOX News piece on SPLC stating they had listed Hate Groups and some were not Hate Groups. Thought I would share with you; I know nothing about them and would be interested on your comments about this (fake news) FOX News piece. http://start.att.net/player/category/news/article/fox_news-cnn_highlights_discredited_splc_report_on_hate_gro-foxnews

      1. Thanks Marty! Geez, looks like something that Pence would support! I file them under Hate. I knew you would be the right one to ask! I already leaned towards hate group since it was coming from FOX News!

Hope you and everyone else watched Maddow last night or at 5am this morning. Everyone should check it out on MSNBC if you missed it. Insight about Bannon and Mercer re: Breitbart and their plan to bring down the opposition of trump, including the family in the WH, the media and anyone else who stands in trump’s path. Including “as ugly as it gets”. btw, maybe one of my oversights was Kellyanne Conway’s connection in all this! People are nuts and Breitbart heads up that group!
