‘Chosen By God’: Kirk, Owens, My Pillow Guy Make For Surreal CPAC Circus

I see the greatest president in history. Of course he is, he was chosen by God.

That is an actual quote from Mike Lindell, otherwise known as the Mario lookalike of My Pillow fame.

Lindell, a staunch supporter of the president and an infomercial stalwart, delivered a speech on Thursday at the Conservative Political Action Conference, a venue at which Donald Trump was booed just eight years ago.

Here is the moment when a stammering Lindell declared that Trump’s presidency was ordained from on high.

So, that is a pillow salesman, speaking from CPAC, proclaiming that a man whose life history is replete with acts and deeds that would appall the historical Jesus, was chosen by God himself to “get people saved in Jesus name.”

The only saving grace (pardon the divine pun) is that the comedic value of watching Lindell declare that we have witnessed the literal second coming easily outweighs the rather disconcerting prospect that just seconds prior to claiming that Trump is a god, he (Lindell) admits that as late as four years ago, he “didn’t know a liberal from a conservative.”

In any event, Lindell’s speech is indicative of the circus that CPAC 2019 most assuredly is. This has never been what one might call a “meeting of the minds”, but this year it’s especially surreal.

Candace Owens and Charlie Kirk scored speaking time as did James O’Keefe and, believe it or not, Diamond and Silk.

Owens is the director of communications for Turning Point USA, which Kirk of course founded. The group has seized the spotlight this year, with RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel describing Kirk and Owens as “rising stars”, who are “the future of the party.”

On Friday, Owens claimed that racism in America doesn’t exist because she’s never been a slave.

We would gently suggest that Candace is in fact a “slave” right now – but she either doesn’t realize it, or else is content to deal with it if it means garnering fame and fortune by offering herself up as a pretty face for a party that stands for the systematic oppression of minorities. Speaking of which, Owens also claimed (in the same speech) that Democrats are deliberately stacking the deck against African Americans so that they (Democrats) can campaign on the issue of equal rights.

You’re reminded that this is the same Candace who once said the following about Adolph Hitler:

Clearly, Owens doesn’t understand much about the Reich, but that’s not really the point here. The point is that this is someone who is becoming quite influential among conservatives, a perilous state of affairs for obvious reasons.

If you were wondering whether Jacob Wohl is wandering around at CPAC, the answer is not only “yes”, but “yes” and with Don Jr. Here is a picture posted by Wohl’s father on Thursday:

Jacob would have doubtlessly posted that himself, but he was banned from Twitter this week after telling USA Today that he planned to create fake accounts to influence the 2020 election. Because that’s what “very stable geniuses” do – they tell the most mainstream of mainstream publications that they intend to commit election fraud.

For anyone who missed it, here are some choice excerpts from that interview:

He says he plans to create “enormous left-wing online properties” — such as deceptive Facebook and Twitter accounts — “and use those to steer the left-wing votes in the primaries to what we feel are weaker candidates compared with Trump.” It’s a plot similar to what Mueller has charged in indictments that the Russians crafted in an effort to boost the 2016 campaigns of Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein and hobble Hillary Clinton.

Another stated scheme: seeking to collect damaging information on left-leaning non-profits including Media Matters for America, the Southern Poverty Law Center and Right Wing Watch by offering their insiders “moral reconciliation,” and if that doesn’t work, “things of worth” — such as money.

Or perhaps those stated plans themselves are a ruse to fool the mainstream media, which he calls a “band of lying goblins.”

To be clear, there is a “band of lying goblins”, but it’s not the mainstream media. It’s the folks gathered at a convention center at National Harbor, Maryland, where Trump will speak on Saturday.

We’d be remiss not to mention that on display at CPAC this year is “Unafraid and Unashamed”, an 8-by-16 foot, 300-pound affront to the word “art” created by Julian Raven. It would be difficult to top Madeleine Aggeler’s spoof of this crime against paint, so we’ll just excerpt her piece, published Thursday:

On the subject of death and humiliation, the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is taking place in National Harbor, Maryland, this week. Its attractions include “celebrities” like former Breitbart editor and White House adviser Sebastian Gorka and far-right commentator Candace Owens, a life-size cardboard cutout of Turning Point USA founder and noted screamer Charlie Kirk, and this enormous painting of Donald Trump’s head next to a bald eagle carrying an American flag into space.

Do you want to know the time and date of when you will die? Again, I don’t. But gazing upon this piece – the painstaking re-creation of Trump’s Twitter avatar, the eagle zooming angrily through space with a flag that appears to be one foot wide and 18 feet long, the Statue of Liberty, now 900,000 feet tall, standing on top of the Atlantic – I can’t help but feel like Naomi Watts watching that video of Samara in The Ring. I keep watching my phone, waiting for it to ring and for a ghostly voice to tell me I have seven days.

“When we depart from our Judeo-Christian values, the boundaries of right and wrong are lost,” Raven told NPR in an interview from CPAC, where his painting is almost as popular as Charlie Kirk. “People have lost respect for our country”, he added.

Yes, Julian, they sure have.

And can you really blame them?

After all, America runs on a two-party system and one of those parties has devolved into a tacky personality cult full of conspiracy theorists who believe Hillary Clinton once ran a child smuggling ring out of the basement of a pizza shop, publicity hounds who say racism doesn’t exist because they’ve never been slaves, profiteers who parlay lies into millions in ad revenue via firehose propaganda portals and, of course, spineless politicians who don’t know a slippery slope even when they’re sliding down one.

  1. I recall seeing trump acknowledge this nut job at a cult rally, pointing to him off to the upper right of the stage, seated in a small balcony-like area, and thanked him by name for his support. The man was so excited and thrilled to be selected personally for such an honor I thought he was going to have a stroke. From that day forward he has made it clear he adores trump and promotes him every opportunity he gets. I’m surprised he has not yet been appointed to some ‘acting as’ position in this administration!

I also know two people who had a couple of pillows they purchased due to those pillow infomercials and were so appalled to learn of his passion for trump that they immediately burned those pillows.

  2. H., I find Trump et al as awful as you do. Mike L. Is a recovering addict who has discovered all kinds of religion post ten steps. I am more interested in hearing about your reaction to the deBlasio/AOC burn off of Amazon jobs in a neighborhood that needs entry level employment for many non high school graduates in the public housing projects of Long Island City. We can only hope that M.Gianaris who boasts on thousand of jobs coming to Queens without tax incentives is not lying. I personally doubt his claims.
All the hate towards Trump doesn’t create jobs for the folks that haven’t started to find a path out of poverty. The federal job guarantee promoted by AOC is an empty promise. There is no guaranteed federal job, even the Army requires a high school diploma or GED certificate. The threat of taking names of moderate democrats that don’t support the progressive politics of AOC and Rashida Talib, and “primarying them” is almost laughable coming from democratic socialists. What’s your take on this move to the far left?

    1. AOC’s job guarantee is an empty promise? Interesting (yet empty thought) considering the the largest socialist jobs program ever created (the US Military Industrial complex) is still going strong. Guess based on your (empty) logic we should dump all or nearly all military spending because it’s useless.

      1. And BTW, I agree that AOC’s perspective and actions related to the AMZN headquarters were naive. But I do this thing where I think for myself and judge people on all of their actions/potions. The suggestion of a guaranteed job is interesting. I don’t know if I agree with it, it’s just a general idea right now so there’s not much to agree or disagree with. Of course you have to not be a mindless automaton to understand that. You should give the whole thinking for yourself thing a try.

    2. the deBlasio/AOC burn off of Amazon jobs in a neighborhood that needs entry level employment for many non high school graduates in the public housing projects Wait, what? Amazon wasn’t proposing to build a fulfillment center in LIC. Those jobs were going to well-compensated engineers, programmers, and marketers with college degrees. People who can afford $4,500/month for a two-bedroom condo in a glass tower. The people most likely to get hurt by Amazon coming to LIC are exactly the people you describe. AOC and everyone opposed to the giveaway cooked up by Cuomo are right — and you are naive.

  3. So, this Candace is saying that Hitler only problem is going international! Hmmmm, so now there american who think simple genocide is fine as long as it stays “national”.

    1. It’s hard to discern whether some of these young alt-Right personalities are ignorant or just capitalizing off saying things that are provocative while knowing full well that what they’re saying is ridiculous. In her case, it seems to be a little bit of both, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if somehow she could be flashed back in time and observe, in person, a Nazi concentration camp, she’d find herself unable to keep up the charade once we flashed her safely back to 2019.

  4. Hopium, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I think for myself every minute of the day. I’ve done more and banked more than you ever thought of. Your smack talk is indicative of a personality disorder, shove it!

  5. Ideas are needed and consideration of those ideas not I got mine and f-you buddy. Being progressive is not just for liberals and independents many former republicans who walked away from Trumpism are realizing this will be a come to jesus moment for our country, our economy and definitely our wealth inequality. It’s there and the 1% knows it and are afraid of the decisions that are going to be needed in the future. We either work together or get out of the way because the 21st century will leave us in the dust just like all other world powers in the past who lost their way.

  6. Anybody notice the RED STAR on the eagle’s right wing?
is that supposed to be some form of subtle humor by the “artist”?

    1. aha! not until you mentioned it — with the nearby ‘feather’ and that star, appears to be symbol of Islam peeking from behind the wing — subtle.

Directly above that photo, bold print, follow the link noted screamer Charlie Kirk; you will go to Splinter – read the tabs across the top, find Secret Life of Muslims, open that tab, read the short paragraph you see at the top.

    1. Yes, that is what I also was thinking but my cursed curiosity took over when I began to follow some of the links that Heis noted in his column (as mentioned noted screamer) which resulted in my posting above. Late last night, my curiosity again took over and I Googled the artist Julian Raven and chose to watch a youtube in which he explains the reason for the painting and some details hidden in the painting. Spent 38 minutes I will never get back listening to a man who loves to talk about himself! He depicted a few strokes in his painting and explained the hidden meanings and why he included them. I also listened to his foolish dribble that he loves trump and he clearly believes that he surely was sent by God for some obscure reason! However he never mentioned the Islam symbol I think I saw. I did learn that he was an illegal immigrant (long story) but eventually fixed that mess and supports the trump Wall crap. So, all in all, in less than 40 minutes it became very clear why his painting is connected to CPAC.

Now, this morning with my cuppacoffee, I followed two Heis links to Madeleine Aggeler’s her piece, and his link told NPR, both fun reads!! She mentions symbols hidden in this painting. Again, nothing about the Islam symbol. So I wonder if I saw what I thought I saw and also looked at other photos of his stupid painting. By morning light I went back to what I said in my post last night, retraced the readings and I swear, I still see it.

Heis, check it out — what do you think?
