  1. Musk and Trump are denying this scurrilous misreporting – which means it is true.

Meanwhile, futures suggest investors who were lured in by Trump’s promises of “very lenient” reciprocal tariffs and Bessent’s reassurances that announced tariffs are only a “cap”, and by strategists who were saying April 2 is the peak of tariff uncertainty, are not impressed at being liberated from their money.

    1. A guy I know used some Buffett quote to back up why (in his view) whatever’s going with Trump and the tariffs has no bearing on his investment strategy. I conceded that while that makes sense 99.9% of the time, Trump 2.0 is that 0.01%.

Specifically, that Buffett advice about ignoring who’s President makes sense if the President either knows what he’s doing, or is surrounded by capable advisors who he listens to in order to know what to do (or in this instance, not to do). In this rare case, its neither.

Judging by after hours market action, maybe my friend should’ve listened to me.

  2. One week we get the Bristol Motor Speedway and Carlota Bererra and this week it’s The Pixies, Isuzu and Eminem.

Let’s pray there are no tariffs on juxtaposition.

      1. Before I forget, I wanted to circle back on this because it’s surely lost on anyone younger than 40. I should preface this by saying I don’t listen to music, really, and never have. But back then, you pretty much had to listen to Em, because even though he was sunsetting career wise, that was still his era — he was still the biggest thing in the world. Also, people still listened to CDs all the way through back then (that album was 15 years ago), where “all the way through” means front to back. You pushed play and the album played in order, song after song.

So here’s this album and it’s playing and you’re — you know, driving and not really paying attention or whatever — song #14 fades out, and bear in mind, you have no idea what’s coming next, and then suddenly, through your car speakers, is that opening Rihanna line.

That song’s so iconic (and thereby so hopelessly cliche) all these years later that I don’t think people can really imagine what that was like. Even if you ended up thinking, after a couple of listens, “Mehh, this is a little overwrought for me,” the first time hearing that Rihanna chorus without warning was a truly jarring audio experience, particularly given that when it comes in, there’s no music for her first two words until that piano comes in on the third. You were just listening, song #14 fades out, it’s silence for 2 seconds, and then bam, she hits you with that first line. That was a moment, irrespective of whether you liked pop music, and God knows I didn’t (and don’t).

  3. I live in Wisconsin. Over $90M was spent on the race, $40M by Crawford and her side and $50m by Schimel and his side. Rest assured that the Democrats tried to buy the race also. They succeeded.

“Crawford has received significant support as well. Major liberal donors such as Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Democratic donor George Soros have given money to the Wisconsin Democratic Party, and the state party has donated around $2 million.
According to the Brennan Center’s tally, Crawford’s own campaign has spent more than $22 million; Schimel’s has spent over $11 million.” Source: ABC News. Reid Hoffman is in this group as well.

I offer no substantive comment as to whether Schimel or Crawford will be a better jurist. And I admit that Musk has a tendency to traffic in hyperbole and perform clownish stunts.

That all being said, it’s beyond laughable for Crawford to claim what she did in her speech. “In her victory speech, she described “an unprecedented attack on our democracy, our fair elections and our Supreme Court.” In this race, at least, Wisconsinites “fended off” that attack. “Justice does not have a price and our courts are not for sale,” Crawford said.”

Soros, Hoffman, Pritzker and others ensured that the court was for sale. They just happened to win.

    1. Well, since you live in Wisconsin, you surely know how anti-democratic (small “d”) that state GOP is, and how hard they’ve tried, over the years, to serve as a model for the systematic disenfranchisement of Democratic (large “D”) voters.

Congrats, Patrick, your state Republican caucus is one of the most nefariously antithetical to our nation’s system of governance in the entire union. And if you vote with them, you’re complicit.

Also, Musk exhibits a little more than “a tendency to traffic in hyperbole.” Jesus Christ, do you follow his “X” account? He’s a veritable wellspring of insanity. As in: He’s off his rocker, and he’s also, in the opinion of some (“many” probably works, but I’ll be nice and go with “some”) observers, a raving, ranting, closet white supremacist.

It’s beyond me how intelligent people can even pretend there’s any sort of ambiguity in this anymore. Patrick, if you’re halfway intelligent — and you’re here, so I assume you are — you know goddamn well that what Musk and Trump and the rest of these people are up to is bad, so why do this? Why leave a public comment kinda/sorta drawing a moral equivalence that you know doesn’t exist?

And Patrick, do yourself a favor: Don’t answer that question as a reply to me. Just mumble something to yourself and go on about the rest of your evening and save us both the trouble.

      1. I also live in Wisconsin. I don’t know what Patrick is on about, but our Republicans are among the worst around. The Walker era is an absolute embarrassment and obviously contributed to the rise of this MAGA bullshit. I email Robin Vos regularly to remind him that’s he’s a spineless coward. Sconnies the world ’round are rejoicing today.

  4. I have noticed that Trump rarely appears in person outside of his cage any longer. He sends Musk or that other guy, what’s his name, the VP. Musk will be on his way soon so then who will go? Remembering what happened to McKinley …
