Read Donald Trump’s Embarrassing Letter To Recep Tayyip Erdogan

On Wednesday afternoon, Fox’s Trish Regan tweeted out what she described as a letter Donald Trump sent to Recep Tayyip Erdogan last week when it became apparent that the White House’s decision to green light Turkey’s incursion into northern Syria had been a potentially disastrous mistake.

The letter, dated October 9, would have reached Erdogan around 72 hours after the now infamous phone call between the two presidents, during which Trump agreed to pull some four-dozen US special operators away from positions held by America’s Syrian-Kurdish allies.

The White House has since confirmed the authenticity of the letter. Earlier in the day, Trump indicated he might release it after a reporter asked him whether he was surprised by Erdogan’s actions in Syria.

Trump’s critics will doubtlessly describe what you’re about to read as hard evidence to support the contention that the president is not fit to execute the duties of his office.

We present it here without further comment, other than to say that since it was sent, Erdogan has killed hundreds of people, his allied Syrian forces have committed war crimes including the execution of Hevrin Khalaf, and an estimated 160,000 people have been displaced.

October 9, 2019

His Excellency

Recep Tayyip Erdogan

President of the Republic of Turkey

Ankara

Dear Mr. President:

Let’s work out a good deal! You don’t want to be responsible for slaughtering thousands of people, and I don’t want to be responsible for destroying the Turkish economy – and I will. I’ve already given you a little sample with respect to Pastor Brunson.

I have worked hard to solve some of your problems. Don’t let the world down. You can make a great deal. General Mazloum is willing to negotiate with you, and he is willing to make concessions that they would never have made in the past. I am confidentially enclosing a copy of his letter to me, just received.

History will look upon you favorably if you get this done the right and humane way. It will look upon you forever as the devil if good things don’t happen. Don’t be a tough guy. Don’t be a fool!

I will call you later.
