Man Whose Mar-a-Lago Resort Failed To Treat Sushi For Parasites Days Before A Visit From Japan’s Prime Minister Says Red Hen Has ‘Filthy Canopies’

Donald Trump kicked off the new week by servin’ up the “covfefe” pipin’ hot, in what amounts to a continuation of his traditional weekend Twitter meltdown that featured, among other egregious nonsense, the contention that America should throw due process out the window on the way to “immediately” sending immigrants “back where they came with no judges and no court cases”. You know, just like it says on the Statue of Liberty.

On Sunday evening, just to make sure no one was under the impression that he still retained any semblance of sanity in the synapses that reside beneath that rusty Brillo pad he wears on his head, he again threatened America’s trade partners before demanding that Jimmy Fallon “be a man” and stop mischaracterizing his hair:

Fast forward to Monday morning and Trump took aim at the Red Hen, the restaurant that grabbed headlines last week after refusing to serve current (and soon to be former) White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Here’s Trump:

That’s ironic because just a little over a year ago, Mar-a-Lago resort was hit with more than a dozen health code violations. Here’s the Orlando Sentinel:

Unsafe seafood. Insufficiently refrigerated meats. Rusty shelving. Cooks without hairnets.

Reports show Florida health inspectors cited President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach with 15 violations in late January, days before the U.S. leader hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for a diplomatic visit.

The state inspectors allowed the luxury resort’s main restaurant and beach club grill to remain open as staff scrambled to make several immediate corrections.

As TIME details, just days ahead of Abe’s visit, inspectors:

  1. found sushi fish that had not been subject to necessary treatment for parasites,
  2. cited the club for storing food in two defunct coolers which reportedly reached temperatures that could spoil fresh food

And then there was this from January (via the Miami Herald):

A year after the discovery of foods that could sicken people at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, his Winter White House was just cited by inspectors for poor maintenance.

Never mind that it costs $200,000 in initiation fees to join the exclusive club, which has two restaurants and a bed-and-breakfast.

Fresh state records show the B&B needed emergency repairs in order to pass the latest inspection in November.

Trump’s club, located on a beachfront property where the historic main house was built in the 1920s for cereals heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, was cited Nov. 8 for two violations deemed high priority: the lack of smoke detectors capable of alerting the hearing impaired through flashing bright lights; and slabs of concrete missing from a staircase, exposing steel rebar that could cause someone to fall.

So in all fairness, I guess Trump has a leg to stand on when he criticizes the Red Hen for “filthy canopies”.

After all, he knows a thing or two about restaurant practices that have the potential to make people sick.
