Weight Watchers Soars On Oprah For President Rumor – No Word On DJ Khaled’s 2020 Plans

There’s been no shortage of jokes over the years about the responsiveness of Weight Watchers shares to all things Oprah-related.

She has a 10% stake in the company and has made a pretty penny since announcing the investment back in 2015:

Specifically, she’s racked up something like $300 million in profits from that stake.

Well thanks to rampant speculation that she’s now considering a run at the presidency in 2020, she (and everyone else who owns the shares) is getting even richer.

Early on Monday, on the heels of a rousing speech at the Golden Globe awards, sources who spoke to CNN “confirmed” that Oprah is “actively thinking” about making a run for the Oval Office.

One of the sources (a friend) said the conversation actually dates back “several months.”

Of course she hasn’t made a final decision, but investors aren’t waiting around, driving WTW shares higher by more than 12% for their best day since August:

Now if only DJ Khaled were to announce a 2020 bid, Weight Watchers could soar to $100…

  1. Apparently, the still grossly ignorant masses don’t understand that Oprah would have to divest of holdings in WW if she were President and she could have little impact on the WW as a company. Given her obese avg. wt. since using WW – she isn’t exactly a walking commercial for any diet program.

Clearly we have come to a point in our history where celebrity and popularity are far more important to voters than proven leadership competency. Logically it represents the extent and their depth of knowledge necessary for national leadership. It proves at least half the populations ignorance of leadership is so vast as to confuse wealth and business success – with the ability to absorb and sort critical information efficiently in general – and specifically political and strategic knowledge necessary to lead the former largest economy in the world.

  2. Oprah’s business sense is far superior than most ‘celebrity’ types — she is actually a self-made billionaire and has made the most of any opportunity she pursued — including charitable and spending billions on education for young women and seeing them thru college. She is a very smart business person.

While I have no doubt she could do the job as President and I would support her efforts, I will not encourage her. I believe she has more value continuing her career as she has and perhaps as Ambassador or a member of Congress. She absolutely is an exceptional human being and very talented.

I also saw that trump had the audacity to say he thinks she would make a good VP for him … and I am still laughing! What an imbecile he is. That lunatic is not qualified to walk in her shadow.

    1. What the hell is happening??

Every empire eventually dies, but I don’t know if any empire has ever died of embarrassment likr the American one is about to…unless the rest of the world dies laughing first.

How will the history books deal with this?

  3. “Clearly we have come to a point in our history where celebrity and popularity are far more important to voters than proven leadership competency.”

Who, in your opinion, has “proven leadership competency”?

  4. Warren / Biden or Biden / Warren… either way at this point.

They do have the intelligence that is needed to remake 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

    Just my thoughts……
