Trump Gets Customized #DSMAGA Hat From Abe, Says Japan Is ‘Nation Of Samurai Warriors’

As you’re probably aware, Donald Trump has embarked on a marathon tour of Asia and his first stop was Japan.

Last week, when the President hosted the children of the White House press corps for a Halloween event in the Oval Office, Trump tried to comfort a visibly distraught Japanese child dressed as Batgirl. Upon hearing the news that Trump was “going to be in Japan in two weeks,” the despondent child answered simply: “I know.” Here is the actual moment that exchange took place:

As you can see, Japanese Batgirl was skeptical about the President’s overseas jaunt.

And indeed things got off to an inauspicious start, because as The Japanese Times reported on Saturday, Trump has apparently been questioning why Shinzo Abe didn’t shoot down North Korean missiles that passed over Japanese territory earlier this year citing, among other things, his understanding that Japan was a nation of “samurai warriors.” To wit:

U.S. President Donald Trump has said Japan should have shot down the North Korean missiles that flew over the country before landing in the Pacific Ocean earlier this year, diplomatic sources have said, despite the difficulties and potential ramifications of doing so.

The revelation came ahead of Trump’s arrival in Japan on Sunday at the start of his five-nation trip to Asia. Threats from North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile development programs were set to be high on the agenda in his talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday.

Trump questioned Japan’s decision not to shoot down the missiles when he met or spoke by phone with leaders from Southeast Asian countries over recent months to discuss how to respond to the threats from North Korea, the sources said.

The U.S. president said he could not understand why a country of samurai warriors did not shoot down the missiles, the sources said.

So in addition to being fall-in-the-floor funny, that also underscores an important point about why Trump is dangerous in terms of foreign policy. Abe is already angling to change Japan’s pacifist constitution and his recent election triumph makes that less of a pipe dream than it was previously. Say what you will about that, but it would undoubtedly raise the stakes in the region and Trump’s characterization of the Japanese as a bunch of crazy, sword-wielding ninjas serves as a tacit stamp of approval from Washington for Abe’s ambitions.

But in case that’s not funny enough for you, do consider what Trump said when addressing  U.S. troops at Yokota Air Base while wearing a bomber jacket. To wit:

We dominate the sky. We dominate the sea. We dominate the land and space. Not merely because we have the best equipment, which we do, and by the way, a lot of it’s coming in. You saw that budget. That’s a lot different than in the past. A lot of beautiful brand new equipment is coming in. And nobody makes it like they make it in the United States. Nobody.

Yes, spoken like a true “dotard”. Here’s the moment when he put on the jacket as Melania looks at him like a mother would look upon a child putting on a big boy coat:

But believe it or not, none of that even comes close to being the punchline. Rather, the punchline came when Trump was presented with a modified version of his patented #MAGA trucker hat, which Abe took the liberty of adapting. Have a look at this:

That’s right. Shinzo Abe had hats made that say “Donald and Shinzo make alliance even greater.”

You’re on your own Angela – the fate of the world rests squarely on your tired shoulders…
