On one hand, Donald Trump is taking the Russia investigation extremely seriously.
After all, it’s all he ever talks about, he’s constantly on the defensive, and he consistently does things that make him look guilty as sin. Like say, firing the FBI Director in charge of that same Russia investigation. Or like trying to shame his Attorney General into resigning because he had the audacity to recuse himself from the probe after perjuring himself at his confirmation hearing. And on, and on.
On the other hand, Trump has made a mockery of the ongoing effort by lawmakers and the intelligence community to get to the bottom of exactly what went on in last year’s election.
Well, hours after WSJ reported that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury in Washington to investigate Russia’s interference (a report which was promptly followed by a Reuters story that revealed grand jury subpoenas have been issued in connection with the now infamous meeting between Trump Jr. and Russian go-betweens), Trump held a rally in Huntington, West Virginia.
In an effort to play down the increasingly aggressive investigation in front of a friendly (and delirious) crowd, Trump joked about the whole thing. And while what he said was anything but funny, you have to try and find the humor in it. Which is why we’ve slowed it down for maximum comedic effect.
Behold: “drunk” Trump asks if “there are any Russians in West Virginia”:
